Grand Challenge Conversations - 22nd November 2017

Wednesday 22nd November 2017 4.00 - 8.00pm
Keele Hall - The Old Library
Refreshments will be available.

Detailed Description

As part of the HEFCE-funded project ‘Unmaking Single Perspectives: A listening project’ aimed at developing one to one communication skills, and exploring different perspectives to key world challenges, we are offering workshops centred around two of the forthcoming ILAS Grand Challenge lectures. The intention is to encourage participants to explore the content of the lectures in more depth and from different perspectives through one-to-one conversations.

The Grand Challenges Conversation sessions include a workshop exploring the theory of effective listening and dialogue, the Grand Challenge lecture, and an opportunity to practice those conversation skills after the lecture, through conversation with another workshop participant. Refreshments will be provided for workshop participants, coffee on arrival and a light buffet before the lecture .

The Grand Challenge Conversation sessions are open to anyone interested in attending the relevant Grand Challenge lectures, and who are interested in the opportunity to explore the topic of the lectures further through a conversational approach.

This particular Grand Challenge Conversation is linked to the following Grand Challenge lecture:

• Weds 22nd November 2017 4-8 pm Kate Pickett - The Immorality of Inequality

It promises to be an entertaining and stimulating evening and you can find out more about the lecture and the speaker here.

As part of our research into developing one-to-one communication skills for interdisciplinary learning, and inspired by Radio 4’s The Listening Project, we would like to record, and archive your conversations. If you don’t want it recorded, no problem, come along, learn more and talk anyway!
