Mongolian Khöömii Overtone Singing with Michael Ormiston & Candida Valentino
Khöömii is an amazing style of overtone or harmonic singing where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. It originates among the nomads of the central Asian plateau, particularly the Altai and Sayan mountain regions of Mongolia and Tuva. Michael and Candida will explain the techniques, share their journey and lead a workshop teaching the basic principles ok Khöömii. This lecture/workshop is open to anyone who wishes to explore the harmonic nature of their voice. Michael is the UK's most experienced Mongolian Khöömii Singer. He first travelled to west Mongolia in 1993 to study Khöömii with herdsman and keeper of the tradition Tserendavaa. Candida sings “Khargyraa”, an undertone style of singing that has strong connections with shamanistic practices of Mongolia and Tuva. Together they perform concerts, compose and have recorded many CDs featuring Khöömii.www.soundtransformations.co.uk
