FABRICE FITCH (ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC): MUSIC SEMINAR
WEDNESDAY 1 NOVEMBER 2017 | 1.15PM
CLOCK HOUSE LECTURE ROOM
Re-readings, Multiples and Variants: the Artwork as Constellation and my recent music (Agricola IX).
Fabrice will focus on a series of works that form part of his agricologies series, which is inspired by the music of the Renaissance composer Alexander Agricola (c.1456–1506). Agricola IX is a constellation of several related versions for solo wind (including Renaissance instruments) with and without ensemble. Fabrice will consider their relationship to each other, to the original source material from which the set draws, and to the work-concept of Agricola IX in the round, focusing on particular in the notions of variants and re-reading. I will also touch upon the role of the commissioning ensembles, Ensemble Leones (Basel) and Distractfold (Manchester), with whom he collaborated (and continues to collaborate) very closely.
