KEELE DRAMA SOCIETY: THE CRUCIBLE

KEELE DRAMA SOCIETY: THE CRUCIBLE

Description

KEELE DRAMA SOCIETY
The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Friday 10 until Sunday 12 November
Exhibition Suite, Chancellor’s Building

The Crucible is Keele Drama Society’s first play of the year. This reimagining of Arthur Miller’s 1953 play, stages this tale of hysteria and integrity in a modern school room rather than in seventeenth century Salem. Bringing character and story to the forefront, KDS hopes to grab the audience’s attention by putting them right at the centre of the action. The production is set to be ambitious and immersive.

By stripping back the heavy costumes which Miller used to disguise his allegory for McCarthyism, KDS hopes to bring The Crucible crashing into the twenty-first century. Education is at the heart of modern society. Against the background of a classroom, the relevance of Miller’s themes is as raw as ever. It is a warning against the dangers of acting in fear that still rings true.

This minimalist production also allows the KDS to do what they do best, give brilliant performances. More than ever, we can see the complex characters that have been challenging actors for decades as living breathing people, who are familiar to all of us. It’s a production that promises to challenge new and old members alike and provide a wonderful experience for cast, crew and, of course, for the audience
